Student Advancement at NNPS
At Newport News Public Schools, student advancement is comprised of four departments working together to prepare college, career and citizen-ready students: Special Education, Gifted Services, School Counseling and English as a Second Language (ESL).
Special EducationOur goal is to ensure that each student with a disability has the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies consistent with his/her potential to achieve. |
Gifted ServicesWe provide a variety of programs designed to meet the needs of students with exceptional intellectual abilities from kindergarten through twelfth grade. |
School CounselingOur professional guidance counselors assist students, parents, school staff, and outside agencies daily in helping young people strive for and achieve their highest goals and aspirations. |
English as a Second Language (ESL)Newport News has a diverse student population that includes students whose first language is not English. We are proud to offer a program of study for non-English speaking students. |
