Dress Code: Menchville High School

The school division acknowledges that a correlation exists between good grooming and personal attire and student achievement. A similar relationship exists between student dress and acceptable standards of conduct. Recognizing these relationships, the following dress practices are NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL:

1. Headwear or head coverings of any kind (male or female). Hats, hoods, du-rags, scarves, sweatbands, bandanas, headphones/headsets, sunglasses combs, picks, curlers, or rakes worn in hair.

2. Any article of apparel which displays obscene words, pictures or designs. Any article that conveys a sexually suggestive remark or a pro-alcohol, tobacco and/or drug, or gang related message.

3. Any clothing apparel that exposes the mid-section or body below the armpits.

4. Any see-through tops, tank tops with less than THREE (3)-FINGER width straps, tube, halter tops, one shoulder strap, t-strap, tops which bare the shoulders, strapless or backless dresses.

5. Dresses, skirts, shorts, or tops worn over stretch pants or hose not reaching at least mid-thigh. NO garment should be worn higher than THREE (3) inches above the knee joint.

6. Stretch lycra, spandex or nylon tights, leotards, biker pants, pajama/sleepwear pants or shirts, or underwear worn as outer garments.

7. Pants or shorts worn below the intended waistline or inside out, and boxer shorts.

8. Cut-up pants or shorts, bathing suits or athletic type shorts (except in gym).

9. Bare feet or slippers. Footwear must be worn at all times and securely fastened.

10. Jewelry or accessories that may be used as a weapon (e.g. tow or three finger rings that are joined or excessively large medallions.

11. The wearing of long coasts, including trench coats and dusters inside the building.

12. Any item that may be considered disruptive to the educational process.

13. No display or use of cell phones during the school day.

STUDENTS IN VIOLATION OF THIS POLICY WILL BE REFERRED TO AN ADMINISTRATOR AND PARENTS WILL BE CALLED TO BRING THE PROPER SCHOOL ATTIRE. TIME MISSED FROM CLASSES WILL BE UNEXCUSED.
