Dress Code: Denbigh High School
The school division acknowledges that a correlation exists between
good grooming and personal attire and student achievement. A similar
relationship exists between student dress and acceptable standards
of conduct. Recognizing these relationships, the following dress
practices ARE NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL:
- Headwear or head coverings of any kind (male or female): Doo-rag,
hats, hoods, sweatbands, sunglasses, combs, picks curlers or rakes
worn in the hair or any head coverings.
- Any article of apparel, which displays obscene words, pictures
or designs. Any article that conveys a sexually suggestive remark
or a pro-alcohol and/or drug related message.
- Clothing that is transparent or exposes the midriff, navel,
or cleavage.
- Tank, tube, halter tops, spaghetti straps strapless or back-less
dresses. Dresses, skirts, shorts, or tops worn over stretch pants
or hose not reaching at least mid-thigh. NO garment should be
worn too tight and or higher than the fingertips.
- Stretch lycra, spandex or nylon tights, leotards, biker pants
or underwear worn as outer garments.
- Pants, skirts or shorts worn below intended waistline or inside
out, and boxer shorts. No pajamas/ sleepwear of any kind.
- Cut-up shorts or pants with slits, rips or holes. Bathing suits
or athletic type shorts (except in gym).
- Bare feet. Footwear must be worn at all times and securely
fastened. No flip-flops, shower shoes, track shoes, thongs, or
bedroom slippers.
- Jewelry or accessories that may be used as a weapon (e.g. two
or three finger rings that are joined, chains, oversized necklaces).
- The wearing of long coats, including trench coats and dusters
inside the building.
- Any item that may be considered disruptive or disruptive to
the educational process.
Students in violation of this policy will be referred to the office
and parents will be called to bring the proper school attire. If
parents cannot be reached, students will be placed in an alternative
setting. Time missed from classes will be unexcused. Students shall
not attend classes inappropriately dressed. Repeated offenders (more
than twice) of the dress code will be subject to disciplinary action.
