In The NewsNNPS National Archery in Schools program (NASP) tournament is Jan. 27 (January 24, 2012) - The Newport News Public Schools National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) tournament will take place from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at An Achievable Dream Middle and High School, 5720 Marshall Ave., Newport News. Students from several NNPS elementary schools will compete for the first time. Warwick High School has won the state archery championship during three of the past four years. Gildersleeve Middle School finished third in the state in 2011. This is the fourth year for the city tournament, in which 275 archers are registered to compete. Competition Schedule:
The National Archery in the Schools Program is a joint venture between the state departments of Education and Game and Inland Fisheries. The program promotes student education, physical education and participation in the lifelong sport of archery. The state tournament will be held Feb. 25 at Meadow Event Park in Doswell. Contact: |
