NN high schools on Newsweek's Best High Schools list

(July 26, 2010) - All five Newport News high schools made the grade in Newsweek magazine’s list of best public high schools for 2010.

Warwick High School, home to the International Baccalaureate program, is ranked 426 on the list.  Menchville High School is 933, Woodside is 1211, Denbigh is 1474, and Heritage High School is ranked at 1,603. There are 1,734 schools on this year’s list.

Newsweek rankings are derived from the number of Advanced Placement, IB, or Cambridge tests taken by students at a school, divided by the number of graduating seniors. (Data comes from the previous year.) In order to be included on the list, a school has to average one or more tests per graduating senior.

(Note: When the list was released in June, Newsweek included three Newport News high schools. It revised the list to include all five after recalculating the data.)
