In The NewsNN Schools Earn Statewide Recognition(January 15, 2009) - Twenty-one NN schools have earned recognition from the Governor and the VA Board of Education for boosting student learning and achievement. Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence Governor Timothy M. Kaine has announced that 162 Virginia public schools have earned the 2009 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence. The award is the highest honor under the Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) incentive program created by the Board of Education to advance Governor Kaine’s “competence to excellence” agenda to encourage advanced learning and achievement in the Commonwealth’s public schools. Three Newport News elementary schools earned this honor: General Stanford, Hilton, and Saunders. VA Board of Education Excellence Award Twenty-four school divisions and 544 schools earned the Excellence Award for having met all state and federal accountability benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and for making significant progress toward Governor Kaine’s goal for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunity. Eight NN elementary schools earned this award: Deer Park, Greenwood, Lee Hall, Kiln Creek, McIntosh, Nelson, Riverside, and South Morrison. VA Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award Ten school divisions and 276 schools earned the VA BOE Competence to Excellence Award for having met all state and federal benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and for making progress toward the goals of the Governor and the board. Ten NN schools earned this recognition: B.C. Charles, Carver, Dutrow, Epes, Jenkins, Richneck, Sanford and Yates elementary schools; Reservoir Middle School; and Menchville High School. |
